Tollgate Greenway Groundbreaking

The Tollgate Greenway Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 4 at 11:00 AM at the Bankhead Trailhead Parking Lot.

The Greenway will widen, pave and extend the existing trail from the trailhead parking lot to the closed section of Bankhead Parkway. Pedestrians, cyclists, and others will be able to travel the greenway without dodging traffic. More information can be found at the Land Trust site.

  • The Groundbreaking ceremony will feature Mayor Battle and City Planner (and mountaineer!) Dennis Madsen.

  • Construction is expected to take 6 to 9 months—it’s very weather dependent

  • The trailhead parking lot will be temporarily closed during construction, since it is the only possible staging area for construction

  • Funding was provided by a unique private-public partnership, with 50% coming from the City, and the other 50% from private contributions.

It is important to note this was not a MSCA initiative, so don’t thank us! Instead, please thank mountaineer and Tollgate Greenway Chairman Noel Estopinal and a great team of volunteers. This is a great example of neighborhood individual initiative. The entire city will benefit from the tireless work of these volunteers!
